How One Boring Beach House Got a Glam Revival

BOSTON, September 2, 2018 – Just a five-minute stroll from the ocean, the location of this decade-old beach house in Newport, Rhode Island was ideal. The decor, however, didn’t suit the new owner’s design sensibility. “The house has a great open layout and was in very good condition,” says interior designer Desiree Burns, who bought the home with her husband, “but the aesthetic had that typical coastal vibe, with baby blue and seashells everywhere.”

Desiree Burns Announced as LoveJoy Wharf’s
Next Interior Designer

BOSTON, May 11, 2018 – Desiree Burns, a 32-year-old Boston, MA interior designer and owner of Desiree Burns Interiors (DBI) recently added a new victory to her list of accomplishments after winning LoveJoy Wharf’s interior design challenge. Located in the heart of Boston, LoveJoy Wharf is a brand new luxury waterfront condominium designed to pay tribute to the historic architecture and waterfront heritage in a contemporary way.

Burns competed with two other interior designers to create the most appealing virtual design. Relying solely on the public’s vote for their favorite style, she was officially announced as LoveJoy Wharf’s next interior designer on May 4th after a nail-biting race to the end. Burns started Desiree Burns Interiors in 2015, after deciding to fulfill her passion for design. After getting her feet wet in home staging, Burns has found her niche in creating beautiful transitional interiors. While relatively young to the interior design world, Burns has an innate ability to visually transform a space using her creative eye found early on in her years of studying the arts.

“It’s been wonderful to be a part of this opportunity and I consider it an honor to be LoveJoy Wharf’s next interior designer. Designing a space at such a beautiful luxury condo that is reflective of both my design style and the pulse of Boston has been such a memorable experience” -Burns declared.

LoveJoy Wharf had only good things to say about Burns, classifying her as being capable of “creating beautiful and functional, cohesive spaces.” They also highlighted that she “brings a fusion of her earthy, balanced California-chic vibes and the sleek modern aesthetic of Boston to create this beautiful space.”

Boston Magazine and Homepolish, partnered with LoveJoy Wharf to make this competition possible. The anticipated reveal of Desiree Burns’s design as it comes to life in one of the new condominium units is set to take place in early June.

“My inspiration for this design was a fusion of my core style–earthy, balanced, California-chic and the sleek modern aesthetic Boston is known for. I wanted both rooms to feel luxurious yet earthy.”

Desiree’s concept for the Lovejoy Wharf condo was inspired by her time spent in both California and Boston. By blending these two styles together, she creates a sleek aesthetic with a cozy and earthy-modern vibe. The living room fuses but style and comfort, while incorporating just enough color and texture to make it interesting.
